Youth Stress and Mood (YSAM) Program
First, the HEART lab is associated with the Youth Stress and Mood (YSAM) Program [Dr. Jocelyn Meza, YSAM Associate Director]. The YSAM Program provides treatment for suicide prevention, including adolescents (ages 12 to 17) with depression, emotion dysregulation, suicidality and self-injurious thoughts and behavior.
YSAM offers the following services:
- Intake assessments
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
- Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy Skills Groups
- Family Education, Treatment, & Support
- Referrals for specialized procedures and/or ongoing care

Dialect Behavior therpy (DBT) Skills Group
Second, the HEART Lab and the Youth Stress And Mood Program (YSAM) host DBT skills group for multi-group families. Dr. Jocelyn Meza leads these group sessions in where participating patients learn how to develop the following skills: regulating emotions, mindfulness, improving social skills and interactions, tolerating distress, and valiating themselves and others.
Patients who are most likely to benefit from these DBT group sessions inlude those with concerns of:
- Self-harm
- Suicidality
- Dysregulated emotions
- And/or Depression
